My home city of Perth is by no means a big city, in fact, it is actually quite a small city with a population of about 2 million people. In comparison to cities such as New York, London, Shanghai and Tokyo, the city of Perth is a quiet and relatively peaceful one (some may even say quite boring but each to their own). I find that no matter where you live even if its a small, quiet country town or a bustling city like New York, it is always nice (some may even call it a luxury!) to escape from ‘the real world’ and just find a moment to switch off and relax. This something I often struggle with on a day to day basis – I can’t sit still!
However, last week I had the wonderful opportunity to be invited to experience a treatment at one of Perth’s luxury organic and natural wellness spas, Bodhi J Wellness Spa. This spa is hidden away just out of Perth’s CBD on the peaceful Pier Street in East Perth and it truly is a little slice of heaven. From the moment I entered the spa I was felt like I was brought to a different world and I left feeling truly relaxed, pampered and just at peace with everything around me, a feeling I don’t often get.
***Please note that I was invited to this spa to experience a facial treatment in exchange for a review and I truly loved every moment of this incredibly indulgent experience. All opinions are my honest and own opinions and really, who doesn’t love a good facial?
The Treatment
I was lucky enough to experience the Sodashi Thermal Infusing Facial which is described on the Bodhi J website as the following:
An intensive boost of all nature’s vitamins and minerals, Sodashi’s Exclusive Warm Infusing Mask will maximise penetration of nature’s essential vitamins and minerals into the deeper layers of the skin. This ultimate facial indulgence is tailored to your skin needs to purify and deeply cleanse or nourish, leaving your skin hydrated and toned. Restoring forgotten elasticity and radiance, this is more than just a facial, it’s Nature’s Face Lift.
I was very excited to have a facial using exclusively Sodashi products as I have really enjoyed everything that I have used so far in the range. I was also curious to experience a more holistic style of facial as Bodhi J Wellness spa use only natural and/or organic products from Australian brands such as Sodashi and Lit’ya in their spa treatments.
The Experience

From the outside, Bodhi J Wellness Spa is a beautiful red brick building with a huge barn attached to the outside of the spa (this barn is a space for yoga classes which are held here daily). However, once you enter the spa it really does take you to another world and you forget that you are in Perth but instead on the exotic island of Bali. The spa is tastefully decorated with beautiful greenery and luxurious Balinese inspired decor giving. You can tell that founder and director Tania Taylor has worked incredibly hard to give clients that feeling of escapism from the outside world. As soon as I entered the building I immediately felt at peace as the decor and overall atmosphere made me forget that I was at home but indeed in another world.
I was introduced to my lovely therapist Kirsti whom made me feel immediately at home due to her warm and friendly personality, as I honestly did not know what to expect from the whole treatment. Kirsti kindly showed me around the building and told me a little bit about Bodhi J Spa, its philosophy and a little bit about the amazing facilities that they had on the premises. I was most impressed with the look and feel of each room as they did not look intimidating with heavy machinery (something I often see in may spas) but instead they were dimly lit and created a sense of warmth and welcoming. I was impressed to know that they offered a range of of different rooms for just one person to even a whole bridal party and also a room that is dedicated to manicures and pedicures treatments. The deluxe couples room was absolutely beautiful with its high ceiling and free standing bathtub at the end – it looked like complete luxury.

Kirsti and I chatted about my skin and my main concerns. I had a really bad eczema rash a few days prior which was just healing and after spending a few minutes of discussion, she prescribed me with a few Sodashi products that she would use in the treatment. I really liked this aspect of the facial as I really felt that Kirsti listened to what I had to say and looked closely at how my skin was reacting. I felt that knew she really understood her product as well as my skin concerns. She reminded me constantly that at anytime during the treatment, if I felt anything uncomfortable to let her know immediately and guided me and explained to me the different processes as she went along, making sure that I was okay and at ease.
The actual facial itself was absolute bliss and a truly remarkable and indulgent experience. As soon as it began, I felt completely relaxed and was taken to another place where all my worries and stresses of the world did not seem to exist. Everything that was carefully massaged on to my face (I found later it was the Sodashi Calm range) felt velvety, lush and more luxurious than ever. Even though I had some of these products at home, the way that my wonderful facialist had applied and massaged the product into my face was unlike anything I would have ever done at home.
Whilst I won’t talk too much about what was actually done in the treatment, I will go into a little bit more detail about the Sodashi Infusion Mask. What this mask basically is a special Volcanic clay that is applied on top of a normal wash off mask and sheets of gauze. This volcanic clay is quite special as when activated, it self heats to about 35 degrees and is left on for about 20-30 minutes. This mask to me works much like a Korean sheet mask on steroids in the way it locks in all the product. The heat of the mask not only works to open up the skin’s pores but also helps all the nourishing ingredients that were applied underneath the mask (by the way of product) and the nutrients from the mask itself to infuse deeper into the skin’s layers. These nutrients bring about a huge difference to the skin and work to tone, lift, hydrate and brighten the face. Due to the infusion mask staying on the skin as an extra layer (it actually does harden up) it does work a bit like a sheet mask in the way everything is locked into the skin and cannot be evaporated, thus a concentrated amount of nutrients can travel deeper in the skin and work more effectively. The gradual heating of this mask does not feel in anyway uncomfortable like a Bikram yoga class, but if you are slightly claustrophobic due to the heavy feeling of the actual mask, you may want to consider a different treatment. For me, I had no issues what so ever and really enjoyed the initial cooling to the heating sensation of this mask. It is a truly unique experience felt on the face.
Sorry for the blurry images – but this is my face from the Infusion mask itself!
Once the Infusion mask had been removed, my skin was once again treated to more beautiful Sodashi products to finish off and to help nourish and maintain my glowing skin. At the end of my one and half hours of complete relaxation and bliss, I was taken to another room in which I was treated to a beautiful fruit platter, some chocolate and a beautiful tea made with native Australian plants to finish off and discuss the treatment and how to proceed with future treatments.
In my discussion with Kirsti, she brought up some really interesting points for me. One of these was what she did to help with my eczema. As many of you might know, I get really bad eczema around my neck and jaw line and this mainly flares up from allergies (hello spring pollen). Kirsti had mentioned to me that in the treatment I would have felt an extra emphasis on her massaging around the area of my lymph nodes around the neck and jaw area to help drain out any build up of toxins in the area. She said that this may help with my eczema and relieve the irritation that I may be feeling as the massage may help to drain any congestion in that area as the lymphatic system works to help detox and cleanse the body. I found this information incredibly fascinating and I was curious to see if there would be any change in the next few days with my eczema. She also shared with me some tips on how to better maintain my skin and also just how to look after myself better in the next few weeks. The attention to detail and the level of care that I received was just second to none and I felt that the service that I got was truly exceptional.
The Aftermath
Excuse the blurry photo but this was my gorgeous fruit platter that I received post treatment.
My skin looked absolutely radiant and glowing after my facial. It also felt so smooth, soft and plump. Puffiness and dark circles around my eye area were the biggest difference that I noticed as the delicate skin along my orbital bone looked brighter, even and lifted (I loved how my eyes looked afterwards that I purchase the Sodashi Eye Mask that was used). Redness around my chin and jaw from angry irritated skin had completely diminished and I was left with a beautiful and even skin tone. My skin felt balanced, hydrated and congestion around my nose and that little dip above the chin had almost disappeared due to Kirsti’s magic hands.
The beautiful and luminous skin that was revealed to me after the treatment was amazing. I found that my look of brighter, glowing skin lasted for days. I think that the positive effects of this mask on my my skin are still present to this day, over a week later as my skin still feels balanced and smooth from from the facial. I truly believe that my skin has never felt or looked so healthy after any form of treatment be it at home or by a professional. As mentioned before, even the Mr noticed!!
With regards to my eczema, the concentrated massage around my lymph nodes have really, really made a difference to my allergies. I haven’t had a single hint of a flare up in the last week (and the level of pollen in the air are quite high at the moment) and I feel that it is currently in control. I have been trying to maintain this is much as possible and I feel that the simple notion of just massaging to drain the fluids might be a way to help my eczema (key word here is help, it won’t cure it, but it is helping it). I am so impressed with Kirsti’s attention to detail in this area and I will continuously trial her massage theory, if this works it really will be a huge game changer for me in terms of how to deal with my eczema which is beyond amazing.
The Verdict
In one word…AMAZING. Both the actual treatment and the overall experience that I felt at Bodhi J Wellness Spa was beyond wonderful. I have nothing but good things to say. My actual facial left with me glowing, vibrant, luminous skin and this lasted for days. Even the Mr commented on how my skin looked when he came home from work a few days later, which is huge as he never notices things like this (very typical of him). My skin has never felt and looked so good for such a long period of time and I do believe, after more than a week later, the amazing results from my facial do still remain.
Some more products that were used in my facial – the Sodashi Eye Mask and the Enzyme Face Polish
The experience on the other hand, one of the best I have ever had. From the moment I walked into the door at Bodhi J Wellness Spa, I felt that instant escape from the ‘normal’ outside world and as soon as I laid on the treatment table, I forgot about everything and was in a state of elated and relaxed bliss for the entire 90 minutes of my treatment. The experience at Bodhi J did not just stop and start at the treatment table though, there was so much care from both the beginning and end of my treatment, with my facialist Kirsti asking as many questions as possible to give me the best possible outcome and solution in my treatment and for future treatments to come. I had absolutely no hesitation to book another appointment before Christmas as I was completely blown away from both the amazing results that I got from this facial and also my overall experience.
There is no doubt in my mind that Bodhi J Wellness Spa has been one of the best spa experiences that I have ever had. It is no wonder that they have won so many awards such as the Australian Spa of the Year. Everything from the warm and friendly environment, attention to detail, to the amazing result that I got to exceptional level of care I received was second to none. I got so much out of this entire experience, not just glowing skin but a few tips to take home with me as well.
