As many of you know from my routines, I am huge advocate and fan for Tata Harper cleansers. I own 2 (actually make that 3 as of yesterday’s Cultbeauty delivery) of the four cleansers that she has in her line and I really enjoy using each and every one of them. Other than the cleansers, though I hadn’t really had the chance to try out any of the other Tata Harper skincare products, that was until the lovely ladies at Tata Harper themselves emailed me a few weeks ago to see if I was interested in trying out their brand new Clarifying Moisturiser. I was so excited for the chance to try this and when I came back to Perth, this beautiful green bottle of goodness was waiting for me.
The story behind Tata Harper is quite a personal one, Tata herself used to be an avid user of skincare, using all the latest lotion and potions that her money could buy. When her stepfather was diagnosed with cancer however, it was a big wake-up call for her and she started to look into the ingredients that her personal goods contained and was shocked to find that a lot of them had potentially harmful chemicals on the body. The lack of 100% natural skincare that didn’t compromise on performance, smell or texture was hard to come by at the time and Tata Harper found many of the products she used, lacked that research and development that she was used to. This drove Tata Harper to start her own company, conduct her own research and collaborate with industry experts in science and skincare all over the world to create the beautiful line that Tata Harper is today. The Tata Harper brand is unique in the way that the production, research and development is all conducted by the brand (ie. they do not outsource to save on costs) in Vermont. Tata Harper Skincare also has their own 1200 acre farm in Vermont in which many of the botanical plants and extracts are cultivated and harvested to use in the unique Tata Harper formulations. It is obvious that the Tata Harper line is dedicated to providing the best quality skincare possible and using the best ingredients that they can source – their own.
I have been using the Tata Harper Clarifying Moisturiser for a few weeks now and I have to say that I really have been enjoying using it. It really does have that lightweight texture that I am so pedantic about but it also does really keep my skin hydrated and gives my skin a beautiful finish. It most definitely hasn’t disappointed me and the Clarifying Moisturiser most definitely lives up to the quality that I know Tata Harper products to be.

What Is It:
The Clarifying Moisturiser is basically a moisturiser aimed for those with blemish prone or oily skin types.
What Does It Do:
This moisturiser aims to give people who have blemish prone, oily (or in my case combination skin that is oily at the T-Zone and dry at the cheeks) lightweight hydration and also provide a matte finish to the skin. The Tata Harper Clarifying Cleanser also works to decongest and unclog the skin, removing impurities to help the skin to overall be balanced and purified.

As with all Tata Harper formulations, this moisturiser is made from all natural ingredients, including some organic farmed ingredients. Looking at the ingredients list, this moisturiser is absolutely packed with beautiful botanical extracts as well as fermented ingredients to help nourish, purify and soothe the skin.
My Thoughts:
As many of you know, I really am quite picky with moisturisers and they are the one thing I often don’t get too excited over when they are released from other brands. The biggest downfall with most moisturisers for me is their texture and how they feel or sink into the skin. The Tata Harper Clarifying Moisturiser however, is absolutely wonderful to use and I often find myself reaching out to use it on most mornings as I love the smell, the texture, the feel on my skin and the finish this gives. Tata Harper have really nailed this moisturiser on the head for those with oily or combination skin types. I can’t say much for blemish prone skin and how it improves it, as I only occasionally break out. I however, haven’t had any small breakouts or spots since I started using this, which is potentially a positive sign.
Lets firstly talk about it’s ingredients, the Tata Harper Clarifying Moisturiser is jam packed full of amazing sounding botanical ingredients with the added blend of natural minerals such as zinc, copper and magnesium. Tata Harper uses a super fruit healing blend in this moisturiser which consists of elderberry, sandalwood seed oil and apple seed oil. Elderberry is a known skin soothing ingredient and helps to comfort inflamed or angry looking skin. It is also high in antioxidants, flavanols and is a potent antibacterial. Apple seed oil is a nourishing oil that is high in fatty acids and squalene and helps to the skin moisturised and soft. The use of apple seed oil also is considered to be quite environmentally sustainable as it a more effective use of the whole plant material rather than just some parts according to research conducted in May 2016 in the Journal of Industrial Crops and Products. Sandalwood seed oil is also full of fatty acids, but it is most unique as it contains xinmenynic acid which is an extremely rare fatty acid which acts as a potent anti-inflammatory and helps to balance the skin by reducing sebum production. Tata Harper’s Clarifying Moisturiser also contains fermented botanical extracts, and whilst scientific studies are still not clear on the benefits of fermented products on the skin specifically, there are many journal articles which highlight the benefits of fermented by products when ingested. According to an interview conducted with Karen Ballou (a CEO of a cosmetics skincare company) by Refinery 29, fermented ingredients in skincare can enhance the effectiveness of the active ingredients and that fermented cosmetics have a more symbiotic relationship with the skin.
However, what does make the Clarifying Moisturiser, a bit more unique to other ‘green’ or ‘clean’ moisturisers out there on the market is due to its claims of being able to help purify and decongest the skin. This is done via a blend of minerals in the moisturiser’s formulation which contains copper, magnesium and zinc. The combination of the three minerals work together to act as a natural astringent to help remove the build up of oils and dead skin from the surface of the skin. Scientific studies have shown that the right balance of the three minerals help to minimise acne in blemish prone skin. The Tata Harper Clairfying Moisturiser also contains hyaluronic acid in different molecular weights to provide the skin with adequate hydration externally but also to penetrate deeper into the skin to provide a more longer and lasting hydration for the deeper layers of the skin’s dermis. Hyaluronic acid is an acid that is naturally produced by the skin and can hold up 1000 times its molecular weight in water making it a popular ingredient (and one of my favourites) to keep skin looking plump, fresh and hydrated.
Then there is the texture and feel of this moisturiser – in short – its amazing. This moisturiser would be the perfect moisturiser for those who live in a hot and humid climate and tend to wear minimal make up and skincare due to the heat. You will find that the texture of the Clarifying Moisturiser is a viscous, almost serum like consistency which I will admit had me a little worried at first. However, once applied to the skin, it sinks into the skin like a dream and was easy to work with. On application it also just felt immediately cooling and refreshing (most likely due to the Aloe Vera) on the complexion. After applying this on to my skin, I noticed that my skin is plump and hydrated and found that it stayed like that for most of the day.
The Tata Harper website describes the moisturiser to give matte finish but I find the finish is more of a natural looking satin finish (which I really love) and it acts as a perfect base for primers or foundation as it just smooths and evens out the skin ever so nicely. It’s also extremely breathable and I would say it is due to the lack of synthetic silicones such as dimethicone which you often find in moisturisers (which I have nothing against by the way). I find that sometimes with moisturisers I do need to be careful with what I layer underneath, especially when I use face oils. However, due to the formulation of the Tata Harper Clarifying Moisturiser I find this glides so well after using a face oil and it doesn’t ‘ball up’ or leave that furry feeling on the skin but it also works well with other serums and other products underneath as well. I find that using a face oil underneath will give your skin a bit more of a dewy finish due to its texture and finish. After using this moisturiser, my skin looks well hydrated, fresh and calm and is ready to take on the first part of my make up routine for the rest of the day if I am having a no make-up day. I find that it really does leave a flawless canvas for make-up to work with after application.
The Tata Harper Clarifying Moisturiser, does have a slight botanical smell due to the extracts and oils used in its formulation and this cannot be avoided because of that. The scent is quite feint however, and it does disappear after a minute or two. Those who are wary about scents may need to sample this before purchasing. What I do love about the moisturiser is the packaging which is the classic Tata Harper green glass bottle and a wonderfully hygienic pump mechanism which pumps out the right amount of moisturiser for the skin. I find that 1 pump is generally enough for the face or 2 pumps if you want to apply a thicker layer of moisturiser. Keep in mind that the moisturiser is quite lightweight, I have found in the colder weather this provides me with adequate amount of hydration. In summer, due to the lightweight formula I will most likely be reaching for this moisturiser much more often. As a night time moisturiser, it might not provide enough hydration for the cooler months but will most definitely be enough for those who live in hotter or humid climates.
Overall, The Tata Harper Clarifying Moisturiser has been an amazing addition to my skincare stash and is right up there as one of my favourite day time moisturisers due to its lightweight and effortless feel on the skin but also due to its effectiveness in hydrating the skin and keeping it looking plump and fresh. It uses a unique blend of botanicals and minerals to keep the skin nourished and also to help decongest and clarify the skin. Whilst my skin isn’t blemish prone, it can get quite oily and I have found when using this moisturiser, my skin does seem a bit more balanced – my dry cheeks aren’t as dry and my T-Zones seems to be under control in terms of the sebum secretion. This moisturiser is a fantastic addition to the Tata Harper range and it really hasn’t disappointed me at all. I love it!
Repurchase YAY or NAY:
Although this item was kindly gifted to me, I would absolutely without a doubt repurchase this when it runs out. No questions asked. I found that I really enjoyed using this and would often reach out to use it in my morning routines as the finish it gives my skin a is beautiful natural silky skin finish that is fresh, hydrated and radiant looking. The Clarifying Moisturiser by Tata Harper also sits so incredibly well over other harder to layer products (such as facial oils) and works like a dream underneath makeup. The texture, results and the finish this moisturiser gives is wonderful and I will definitely repurchase in the future.
As this is quite new, I haven’t seen the Tata Harper Clarifying Moisturiser anywhere except for the actual Tata Harper website where it can be purchased for USD $105 for 50ml.
